Jordan is a key phosphate resource country in the Middle East and one of the world’s major phosphate rock exporters. Its proven phosphate reserves exceed 4.3 billion tons. Major mining areas are distributed in the southern desert, with three principal deposits Eshidiya, Al-Abiad and Al-Hassa accounting for most national phosphate output, which are centrally operated and managed by Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC).
Jordan phosphate rock is sedimentary phosphorite. Run of mine ore generally has a P2O5 grade of 28%-31% and features good overall grindability. Some ore seams contain clay interlayers, leading to relatively high surface moisture of raw materials, which easily causes material adhesion and blockage during the grinding process.
Jordan’s phosphate industry used to rely heavily on raw ore exports. In recent years, the Jordanian government has vigorously promoted local deep processing policies, encouraging domestic projects for phosphoric acid, high concentration phosphate fertilizers and fine phosphate products so as to cut raw ore exports.
